Part I Exam
What is Part I
Part I is a computer-based test, covering the basic sciences. It consists of 255 questions across six domains.
The administration of Part I is divided into two sessions; each session consists of three domains.
Session 1: General Anatomy, Spinal Anatomy, and Physiology
Session 2: Chemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology
You are allotted 3 hours and 26 minutes of total testing time for Part I. Testing appointments are 4 hours with a tutorial, end of exam survey, and an optional 15-minute break after the first session.

Who Can Take Part I?
If you are enrolled at an eligible chiropractic college, you can take Part I in your second year.
Your registrar must approve your application.
If you have graduated, or are retaking Part I, see additional eligibility requirements.
Topics and Reference Texts
The NBCE develops every exam based on a test plan. The detailed Part I Test Plan includes topics, subtopics, and weightings (the percentage of the test devoted to each topic).

Test Sites and Test Site Rules
The NBCE offers Part I at chiropractic colleges and Prometric testing centers across the country. Each test site utilizes computer-based testing. You can select a test site when you apply. See the list of on-campus Test Sites.
The NBCE is committed to exam security. The only item you are allowed to bring into the secure testing area is one form of ID. The NBCE will provide a place to store your car key (one key allowed). Please review the complete list of Test Site Rules before you arrive to take your test.

What Is A Passing Score For Part I?
A passing score of at least 375 is required for the Part I Examination.

Withdraw / Reschedule
Prior to the published application deadlines, examinees may withdraw from or reschedule their Parts I, II, III, Physiotherapy computer-based exams using the Prometric scheduling tool. After published deadlines, you may not make any changes to your appointment and the NBCE will issue no refunds.
Cancellations and reschedules are allowed as follows:
30 or more days prior to appointment β no charge to examinee.
29-16 days prior to appointment β Prometric charges a $50 reschedule/cancellation fee.
15 days or less prior to appointment β candidate cannot reschedule or receive a refund.
